You’ll often hear Apple fans say how smooth and lag-free iOS is, and how Android is the paragon of everything sluggish and buggy. While this may have been true in the past, it couldn’t be farther from the truth today. While Google has been working hard to eliminate lag in Android, Apple seems to be going in the opposite direction.

The video below demonstrates the lag on my iPad Air 32GB. iOS has always been shit on iPad. Never mind the fact that Apple treats it pretty much like an oversized iPod touch and does little to take advantage of the bigger display. But the performance on the iPad is also horrible now, and has been since iOS 7.

The iPad Air I have is one of the most powerful iOS devices out there (it was the most powerful until the new iPhones came out this month). You wouldn’t expect it to lag with such hardware and Apple’s pedigree. But it does. Badly.

To be fair, I restarted the iPad before this video and closed all the apps (except the App Store, which otherwise would take ages to load). I really wanted to shoot this in 60fps because that shows some of the minor stuttering and frame-drops better than this 30fps video but YouTube still doesn’t support 60fps.

Anyway, watch the video, and use it the next time an Apple fanboy tells you how smooth iOS is.

(Fancy FCP X effects this time because #swag.)
